Top 5 Sources of Inspiration For Writers by Readers Boom

I recently resumed as an intern on a writing platform and was behind on my deadlines. During the weekly check-in, my coach queried me so I told her that I was lacking inspiration on what to write. My response caused a stir from my other teammates — apparently, I wasn’t the only one who had no clue how to move forward with the articles.

My coach encouraged me but then assigned a new topic to me. She asked me to find out 5 sources of inspiration for writers. My teammates laughed at me again and I laughed too because I didn’t know how to explain to her that I didn’t even have inspiration for the inspiration article.

For many writers and creatives, losing or lacking inspiration is as normal as writing itself. Sometimes we have a clear picture of what we want to write and suddenly our minds go blank. It’s more annoying when you have a deadline to beat. My coach’s assignment sent me on a research mission and I have been able to come up with the top 5 inspirations that worked for me and can work for you too.

1. IMAGINATION

Imaginations are free, limitless and powerful. You can travel around the world and meet any celebrity of your choice, have dinner, rub minds together, dance, play, laugh and do anything you want — all with your imagination. Your imagination is the ticket to a whole new world of inspiration. If you can imagine it, then it can inspire you.

2. PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Writers and creatives reflect their experiences in their work. Sometimes we may lack inspiration cause we are trying to create what we haven’t experienced. The overview can be borrowed but the details and specifics of your writing must be deeply rooted in your experience. Your experience is a constant source and flow of inspiration because we experience new things every day.

3. THE LATEST TREND ON THE INTERNET

Everyone will agree with me that the internet holds a lot of stories daily. Nigeria is a land of amazing happenings that never ceases to amaze me, that’s why you can never be out of content when you have the internet.

4. NATURE

Look around you, the earth is filled with inspiration. The green field, the sea and oceans, the mountains, etc. Nature itself is an inspiration, the earth is beautiful and has a lot of captivating things within. So look around the earth and feel free to write what you see and feel.

5. TAKE A BREAK

Sometimes you are not lacking inspiration, you are just tired. When the brain is relaxed ideas flow. If you have been writing for a long time, you can pick a book that is not related to what you are writing about and tease your imagination. Some location articles may flow easier if you are at the location. So maximize your vacations and create new experiences.

These 5 sources of inspiration barely scratch the surface of the list. You can find inspiration in anything and anywhere. Writing should be fun even if it is your job, so try to enjoy it.

I am still looking for more sources of inspiration, do well to share yours with me if mine has helped you.
