Art by Dimpho Mashimbye

Dimpho Mashimbye, born 2004 grew up in Mafikeng and currently resides in Johannesburg Sunninghill. Mashimbye works as an aspiring artist.
Fresh out of high school where he studied art for only 2 years and is now currently on his gap year with a willingness to take risks looking into experimenting with a variety of mediums while finding inspiration throughout the city especially the effects of colour in street art.
Working mainly with Charcoal but also including pastels creating distorted portraits very much influenced by artists like Earai Engelbrecht as well as Jean-Michel Basquiat with the formality of Picasso, Mashimbye searches to depict a fragmented reality with these combinations.
